We provide a full range of fire protection and life safety services for commercial, industrial, and multi-family properties. The work covers fire extinguishers, fire sprinklers, exit signs, emergency lighting, smoke vent skylights, pre-engineered fire suppression systems, fire hoses, fire hydrants, FDCs, first aid cabinets, first aid kits, eyewash stations, and more.

On the inspection and certification side, we handle:

  • Monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual inspections
  • 5-year certifications
  • Hydrostatic testing and recharges
  • NFPA 25 and Title 19 inspections
  • Repairs, deficiency corrections, and citation work

We also run OSHA-approved fire extinguisher safety training classes for staff and employees, along with completion certificates. Yellow Hat Fire supplies fire equipment, parts, supplies, signage, brackets, cabinets, and accessories. Whether you need a single annual visit or a full ongoing service plan across multiple properties, we put it all under one roof so facility teams aren’t juggling vendors. Reach out, and we’ll map out a plan that fits your property.

OSHA splits the requirement into two parts. Any employee with access to a fire extinguisher needs general education on extinguisher use and the hazards of fighting small fires. Employees specifically designated to use fire extinguishers as part of an emergency action plan need hands-on training annually.

Our onsite training classes cover the OSHA-mandated hands-on requirements for designated employees, walking through scenario-based instruction, fire classifications, proper extinguisher use, and evacuation strategies. Each session ends with a class completion certificate so employers can prove compliance during audits.

Industries that benefit most include warehouses, manufacturing plants, hospitals, schools, hotels, and any facility where employees are expected to respond to a small fire before the fire fighting professionals arrive.

A failed inspection means the marshal documented one or more violations that need correcting within a set window of time. The timeframe varies by violation severity and the local authority having jurisdiction, ranging from a few days to a couple of months. Common issues include missing or expired extinguisher certification tags, blocked or painted sprinkler heads, non-functioning exit signs, untested emergency lighting, and other missing inspection records. The notice will list each deficiency and a deadline for re-inspection. Fines may be assessed as well.

Ignoring the notice carries real consequences:

  • Fines that can escalate over time
  • Possible operational shutdown for serious violations
  • Insurance complications if a claim is filed before fixes are made
  • An unsafe environment for employees and occupants

We handle citation corrections start to finish. That means walking the property, fixing each flagged item, replacing or repairing equipment, and updating documentation so you’re ready for re-inspection. Send us your citation notice, and we’ll quote the corrections fast, so you stay ahead of the deadline.

A recharge service is when an extinguisher is recharged with the correct agent and re-pressurizes it after use, when it is leaking or when required at various intervals by the fire code. It’s a regular part of keeping a fire extinguisher ready for emergency use and is required any time the extinguisher has been discharged, even partially.

A hydrotest, or hydrostatic test, is a structural test of the cylinder itself. The unit is emptied, filled with water, and pressurized to verify that the shell can still hold its rated pressure safely. Hydrotest cycles vary by extinguisher type, typically every 5 or 12 years.

Both recharge and hydrotesting are services required to keep an extinguisher legally in compliance and usable. Skipping either one, when it is required, means the extinguisher fails and will not receive a certification tag.

NFPA 25 is the national standard for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems. That covers fire sprinklers, standpipes, fire pumps, hose systems, and private fire service mains. California adopts NFPA 25 (CA Edition) under Title 19, so any commercial property with a sprinkler system is required to follow it.

Inspection frequencies are standard for fire sprinkler systems. Quarterly inspection and reporting must be done. Then there are annual and 5 year inspections. Each service has specific requirements that must be documented and submitted for review.

Bottom line, if your property has fire sprinklers, NFPA 25 applies. We perform full NFPA 25 inspections, deliver compliance reports formatted for AHJ review, and are able to handle deficiency corrections that are discovered during the inspection. Schedule a walkthrough, and we’ll get your sprinkler system on a compliant inspection cycle.

Pre-engineered systems are factory-designed suppression setups built for specific hazard environments. They activate automatically when fire is detected and discharge an agent matched to the protected hazard. Service requirements are specified under NFPA standards.

We service:

  • Clean agent systems for delicate and sensitive equipment and machinery areas
  • Dry chemical systems for industrial settings
  • Paint booth systems for spray and finishing operations
  • CNC machine suppression systems
  • Computer and server room systems

Service work covers semi-annual and annual inspections, system testing, hydrotests / hydrotesting, recharging, repairs, deficiency corrections, and certification documentation. Cylinders, fusible links, nozzles, valves, and pull stations all get checked or replaced as needed.

If your facility has any of these systems and it’s coming due, we will be happy to provide a service window to help your business remain code-compliant.

Yes. Both fall under the life safety code and must be tested on a regular schedule to stay compliant. Monthly checks confirm each unit illuminates correctly when power is cut, while annual testing includes a 90-minute battery test and a function test to verify the system can operate for the full duration required during an emergency.

Common deficiencies we find include:

  • Dead or weak backup batteries
  • Burned-out bulbs or LED panels
  • Broken housings or missing covers
  • Units installed in the wrong locations

Skipping testing or leaving deficiencies uncorrected is one of the easier ways to fail a marshal walkthrough since these issues are clearly visible at a glance.

We handle full inspection programs for exit signs and emergency lighting, including monthly inspections, function testing checks, annual 90-minute tests, battery replacement, repairs, and AHJ-ready documentation. Let Yellow Hat Fire keep your records audit-ready.

Yes, same-day delivery is available across our service area for fire extinguishers and related supplies, depending on stock and route timing. It’s especially useful when a property has failed a recent inspection, an extinguisher has discharged, or a new tenant is moving in and needs equipment in place before opening.

Items commonly delivered same-day include:

  • New, used, rebuilt, and recertified fire extinguishers
  • Brackets, hangers, and signage
  • Fire extinguisher Cabinets and covers
  • Replacement parts like valves, gauges, tamper seals, locks, and more

For larger orders, custom layouts, or specialty items, lead times can vary, but we work to get what you need on-site as quickly as possible. Call early in the day for the best chance at same-day turnaround, and we’ll let you know upfront whether we can accommodate your timeline.

Several signs suggest a unit needs professional service. The most common is an expired or missing certification tag, which means the extinguisher hasn’t been inspected within the past 12 months. This is a non-compliant situation.

Other red flags include:

  • Pressure gauge needle is located outside the green zone
  • Visible damage like dents, rust, or corrosion
  • Broken or missing tamper seals
  • Discharge nozzle blockage or hose damage
  • A fire extinguisher that has been used, even partially

Monthly visual checks can be performed by your in-house team or you can hire Yellow Hat Fire to perform these. Monthly inspection requirements are designed to make sure the fire extinguisher is operational and compliant. If anything looks off, the safest move is to flag it for inspection rather than wait for the annual cycle. Call Yellow Hat Fire to bring that fire extinguisher back up to code.

We handle full extinguisher servicing, including inspections, recharges, hydrotests / hydrotesting, repairs, replacements and proper disposal. Send us photos or call with a quick description, and we’ll assess what is needed.

Yes. We are licensed by the California State Contractors License Board and also the California State Fire Marshal. The California State Fire Marshal not only licenses companies, but it also licenses individual technicians to make sure they are able to keep fire extinguishers, fire sprinkler systems and fire equipment compliant. Those licenses are what enables Yellow Hat Fire to legally inspect, certify, repair, and recharge fire extinguishers and related life safety equipment and systems. Once a fire extinguisher, fire sprinkler system or other type of fire protection equipment is compliant, we certify with a tag or label. This is what the fire marshal and local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ’s) are looking for, along with other documentation that may be needed.

Working with an unlicensed provider creates real risk for property owners and facility managers. Tags from uncertified vendors can be rejected during inspections, leaving the property out of compliance even after paying for service. Insurance claims can also be contested if the equipment was serviced by someone not authorized to do the work.

Not only is Yellow Hat Fire a licensed concern with the California State Fire Marshal, but service technicians must also hold a license as well. You have a right to ask any prospective fire service company for a preview of your company license. It is also a good idea to ask your service technician for a look at their license as well. If there are no licenses, your company will not want to hire them to service your fire protection equipment.
